Brigadier Stephen Gerard Cain

Brigadier Cain was born in Perth Western Australia on 16 December 1959. He completed secondary schooling at Newman College in Perth, upon completion of which he joined the Regular Army and entered the Royal Military College Duntroon. He graduated in 1982 into the Royal Australian Corps of Transport.
From 1983 to 1988 he had a variety of postings as a junior regimental officer in Land and Logistics Commands; serving in 5 Transport Squadron Brisbane, Headquarters Logistic Command Melbourne and 26 Transport Squadron, Puckapunyal.
In December 1988 he left the Regular Army and transferred to the Active Reserve to 36 Water Transport Squadron, Perth, in April 1999 as the 2IC. In 1990 he was posted as a student at 5 Training Group and upon completion was subsequently posted to 10 Transport Squadron as the Operations Officer. In June 1992 he was promoted Major and appointed Officer Commanding of that unit.
In 1995 he was posted as the 2IC of 13 Brigade Administrative Support Battalion. He was also awarded a Prince of Wales Award that year, which allowed him to work with the US Army 2nd Mechanised Division, Fort Hood Texas. From 1996 to 1997 he was posted to the Regional Training Centre, Western Australia as a student and then Senior Instructor Logistics.
In 1998 he was promoted Lieutenant Colonel and appointed Commanding Officer of 13 Brigade Administrative Support Battalion. His subsequent appointment was as Chief Instructor of the Regional Training Centre. In 2004 he was promoted Colonel and posted as Director Army Personnel Agency, Perth. In 2007 he was appointed the Commandant of the Land Warfare Centre, Western Australia and was the last commander of that unit. He was appointed Assistant Commander (Training) 13 Brigade in August 2008 and promoted Brigadier and appointed Commander 13 Brigade in January 2009.
Brigadier Cain holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree Honours (UNSW), Graduate Diploma in Information Systems (RMIT), Masters of Business Administration (UWA) and an Advanced Management Program (Harvard Business School). He is a graduate of Army Command and Staff College and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics. .
In his civilian career he has held senior management positions in the West Australian Government, the private sector as a State and National Manager of Linfox and is currently employed as the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Cockburn. He is also a Governor of the Corps of Commissionaires and member of the Governing Council of Challenger TAFE, Western Australia.
His wife, Andree is a Magistrate and they have one son, Matthew, aged 20 and a daughter, Alexandra, age 9.

Warrant Officer Class One Shane Moyle's military career commenced when he enlisted into the Army Reserve as a rifleman in 1979 whilst serving with 10th Battalion, The Royal South Australian Regiment, Adelaide. In 1983, he began his Regular Army career by attending recruit training at Kapooka where he chose the Royal Australian Infantry Corps as his future career path.

Warrant Officer Moyle's first posting was as a rifleman in the 10th Independent Rifle Company (10 IRC), Canungra in 1984. In 1985, he was posted to the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR). Whilst serving within 3 RAR from 1985-1987, WO1 Moyle was promoted to lance corporal in 1986 followed by corporal in 1987.

Warrant Officer Moyle was posted back to Canungra as a section commander within 10 IRC. In 1988, he was transferred to an instructional position within Battle Wing, Land Warfare Centre (LWC) where he conducted jungle training for both Australian and Allied soldiers visiting Battle Wing LWC. He conducted training for the Vanuatu Mobile Force on the island of Santo, Vanuatu.

From June 1990 - 1993, he returned to 3 RAR on promotion to sergeant where he served as a platoon sergeant in Bravo Company and Pioneer Platoon Sergeant in Support Company. In 1994, he began a 12 month posting to LWC, Victoria Detachment (VIC DET) as an instructor on both Subject One for Corporal and Sergeant courses. In 1995, WO1 Moyle received his first posting to The Pilbara Regiment, as the Training Warrant Officer, E Troop, Carnarvon.

In January 1998, WO1 Moyle returned to 3 RAR as the Company Sergeant Major (CSM). From 1998-2000 he served as the CSM of Admin, Charlie and Support Companies. In 1999, during his time as CSM, C Coy, WO1 Moyle deployed to Rifle Company, Butterworth, Malaysia for three months followed closely by an operational deployment to East Timor in September 1999.

Warrant Officer Moyle returned to The Pilbara Regiment in 2001 as the Operations Warrant Officer, Karratha. In January 2003, he was posted on promotion to the 42nd Battalion, The Royal Queensland Regiment as the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM). In 2004, he spent 10 weeks in the United States training a total of six battalions from the 1st Marine Division, United States Marine Corps (USMC). This training consisted of Basic Urban Skills Training (BUST) and Stability and Security Operations (SASO) prior to the USMC battalions deploying back to Iraq for current Operations in mid 2004.

From 2005 - 2007, WO1 Moyle returned to The Pilbara Regiment as the RSM. WO1 Moyle was also responsible for the conduct and continued development of all Regional Force Surveillance Unit (RFSU) promotion and specialist course Training Management Packages (TMPs) within the unit. Due to his previous instructional posting to the 1st Marine Division, USMC, and his close ties with members of the Marine Corps War Fighting Laboratory, WO1 Moyle became involved in the development of a Distributed Operations package for the USMC. During the next three years, the ongoing development of this package provided the opportunity for training warrant officers, from The Pilbara Regiment, to be posted as instructors to the USMC for three month periods.

In 2008, WO1 Moyle received a posting to the Warrant Officer and Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, LWC, Canungra as a subject matter advisor and instructor. In October 2008, WO1 Moyle received a six month deployment to Iraq as the Command Sergeant Major of Joint Headquarters Advisory Team, Multi-National Security Transition Command - Iraq. On return from Iraq, WO1 Moyle has taken up the position of Senior Instructor of the Sergeant Training Team, WO&NCO Academy.

Additional specialist qualifications held by WO1 Moyle include assault pioneer, visual tracker instructor, mine warfare instructor, RFSU small craft handler and demolitions supervisor. Shane spends his free weekends and holidays fishing, camping and training in the gym.

WO1 Moyle's honours and awards include the Australian Active Service Medal, INTERFET Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Defence Force Service Medal, Australian Defence Medal, The United States of America Bronze Star Medal, and Land Commander's Commendation.

WO1 Moyle is accompanied by his wife Roslynn and two children Steven and Taysia. His son Steven is currently serving in the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment.
